CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu
Character Canon: Super Dangan Ronpa 2
History: Kuzuryuu's Dangan Ronpa Wiki Page
AU History: The Kuzuryuu clan isn't, in any sense of the word, a noble family, but by now they've given rise to several generations of Enlightened and have amassed a significant fortune through their shrewd business practices. That those business practices are not always strictly legal--and certainly not strictly ethical--is no real secret, and they are major players in Union City's underground. Their strongest footholds are in gambling and the black market, though they dabble in all sorts of shady industries.
While the Kuzuryuu aren't nearly the powerhouse they are in canon, they are steadily recruiting members and expanding their territory. While they've historically stuck to Union's shadows, they're now poised to start nosing their way into the city's politics. Money talks, after all, no matter its background.
Fuyuhiko is the elder of the two children born to the current Kuzuryuu oyabun, and as such is set to inherit his father's growing criminal organization. Because the family is not as well-established in Union City as it is in canon, Fuyuhiko's quest to prove himself is intrinsically tied here into strengthening the Kuzuryuu stronghold and taking over the criminal world.
He and his sister are both Dark-type Enlightened and grew up more or less at each other's throats, but in the "Nobody picks on you but me!" way. They both came into their powers at a very young age, so long ago neither of them really remember, and were trained by other members of their family.
As a child, he was almost always in a fight, whether he was mixed up in his family's affairs or mouthed off to a kid just a little too big for him. One of those he tussled with was Maya Fey, though they've long since moved past their animosity into a mutually snarky understanding.
For the past several months, the Kuzuryuu were embroiled in sick, brutish violence with other criminal big-shots in Union, and only now has the turf war subsided--with the Kuzuryuu on top. Fuyuhiko's now free to catch up with the rest of society and sniff out new avenues for his family to increase their holdings.
Canon Personality: Initially, Fuyuhiko comes off as condescending and bristly, and so unfriendly he's almost a parody of meanness. He's foul-mouthed, impulsive, and quick to promise violence. Insults and distrust are his conversational defaults--his favorite way to address people is "shithead"--and he makes sure everyone knows exactly how tough a nut he'd be to crack, should they try him. It's a lot of defensive posturing for such a little guy.
But it's clear to anyone he lets speak to him for more than five minutes--or anyone who would even want to talk with such a prickly, antagonistic jerk--that much of his brash talk is mere pretense to protect his image. All his life, he's borne the pressure of inheriting his father's criminal empire; that world is unkind to those who show weakness, and with his stature and rosy, cherubic cheeks, Fuyuhiko already looks like easy prey. His threats and nasty attitude help him puff himself up to look bigger, so to speak. It's how he's tried to get people to take him seriously all this time.
Getting behind that posturing isn't too hard, though. Once Fuyuhiko begins to open up to people, he displays fierce loyalty, bitter insecurity, and a willingness to make friends that's almost sweetly shy. His lifelong preparation to lead the Kuzuryuu clan has made him quick to adopt those around him as comrades, if not companions, to look after, and he goes to great lengths to take care of what's his. The possibility of dragging innocent people into the yakuza world doesn't sit right with him, and he tries to avoid crossing the streams wherever he can. He is awkward with his kindness but easily moved to it, and he cares deeply for those who stick with him.
(Sometimes he even seems to forget he's the heir to a criminal conglomerate. He's said things like, "No way! None of us even has a driver's license!" when others suggested driving a car full of ticking bombs into the ocean.)
Moments like that--when his guard slips and something less than manfully badass peeks through--embarrass him. He hates for people even to know he likes sweet food, and he tries to brush off most concern and praise with "Don't treat me like a kid!" He's always railed against the idea that he's too gentle to inherit his father's title as oyabun of the Kuzuryuu--fought it while suspecting it himself. He's fought so hard because he suspects it of himself; nothing drives him harder than his own shortcomings.
But because that insecurity has driven him so long, Fuyuhiko is ferocious in defending against it in others. Often the objects of these protective urges don't completely understand what the problem is; Fuyuhiko is better at putting himself in others' shoes and figuring out what he'd want than he is at actually listening to what they need. But, despite his status as the most notorious teen gangster in Japan, he's a good kid, and he does his best.
AU Deviation: While Fuyuhiko will be older in BNW than he is at endgame (nineteen as opposed to roughly sixteen), he's further back in his development as a decent human being. He isn't trying to make the connections he gradually earns in SDR2. Instead, he's driven to solidify his family's position as top dogs (har har) in the underground and just as defensive and touchy as he ever was. The canine instincts of a Poochyena Shifter just make him even more of a territorial jerk.
However, he is a shade more mature and a few shades more confident, since his being a Shifter means Fuyuhiko isn't as defenseless as he is in canon. Because he isn't as worried about his uselessness, he doesn't have as much of a complex about relying on people, and he can focus on more productive things than just proving himself.
The bonds he makes with Pokemon also ground him better in BNW than he is in canon, and he's less likely to go flying off the handle at the slightest provocation.
Also, he enjoys ear scritches.
Canon Abilities: He's pretty much a normal kid in terms of strength and endurance. He has a high tolerance for pain, and he undoubtedly knows his way around knives and firearms, but he's not actually built for brawls. Or for much of anything, really. He's really just an average high-schooler of less than average size who happens to know a lot about the execution of criminal activities.
He also has a fairly good head for organizing people, and can be trusted to at least take charge if the situation calls for a leader. He tends to jump too quickly to conclusions before considering all the facts, though.
Enlightened Abilities:
Shifter (Shiny Poochyena)
Current Moveset:
Tackle
Howl
Sand Attack
As a Pokemon, the only markings distinguishing him from normal Shiny Poochyena are the two curving stripes shaved through his fur on either side of his head. He's well-groomed for a Poochyena, though. No one could mistake him for a wild Pokemon.
In human form, he's got some sharp canines. He also has dark fur growing from the backs of his hands and fading up his arms to the elbows and on his feet to halfway up his knees. His soles have pawpads. Also, he has a nice, thick tail the same golden color as his hair.
When he evolves into Mightyena, his irises will turn blue, his hair will be on the glossier side as opposed to prickly and get a neat little two-tone effect with the crown of his head still golden and the sides the same brown as his paws, and he'll gain a little height. Not a lot, but at least he won't look like a pup anymore.
Starter Pokémon: Starter: Zubat
Ultra-common: Rattata
Notes/Special Considerations: Being a wannabe crimelord is kind of a big deal, and I took a lot of liberties with how much influence the Kuzuryuu clan's got over the town. I can edit anything, I just hope in general it's okay! I don't have any solid plans for them, though I am super open to plotting with others. AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A MAFIA PARTY.

What do you feel your role in Union is?
The hell? Listen. I'm gokudou through and through. That means I don't give a shit about anything but me and mine. I'll protect my turf, but I don't owe fuck to the city itself.
What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
Guts. If a human being can't stand on his own two feet, he's not worth anyone's time.
A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
Depends on whether it's a fair fight or not. Not that I fucking care, but I can't stand shitheads who can't get by on their own power, no matter what species they are.
(OOC: This one's not strictly true. All things being equal, he'd be inclined to help the Pokemon, since the human attacked first, but no matter how badly he tried to ignore the situation, he'd try to help whoever was weaker.)
You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies, upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
My nose and my teeth. I'm no damn pushover, and I won't hesitate to tear a new one in anything that gets in my way. I don't have to rely on anyone but myself!
When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?
Figuring out what it wants and how to buy it over. We could always use tough customers on our side.
In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable.
Messing with mine. Blood for blood, an eye for an eye. That's how it's always been in my family.
